PDF e-sign. How a signature tight with a person who signs legally?

I know how signature works, etc. Maybe it's not about pdf but about e-sign, but whatever.Imagine we have a contract "I give you $100, you give me a cookie" (expensive cookie). Imagine you and me generated private|public keys signed that contract. Then I gave you $100 but you didn't give me the cookie. I want to go to a сourt, but you removed your private key and tell me that you never signed anything. How court knows that YOU signed that document if anyone can generate sign keys. They are not tight in any way with a signer. Government doesn't ha...Read more

What's the best way to import/read data from pdf files?

We get a large amount of data from our clients in pdf files in varying formats [layout-wise], these files are typically report output, and are typically properly annotated [they don't usually need OCR], but not formatted well enough that simply copying several hundred pages of text out of acrobat is not going to work. The best approach I've found so far is to write a script to parse the nearly-valid xml output (the comments are invalid and many characters are escaped in varying ways, é becomes [[[e9]]]é, $ becomes \$, % becomes \%...) of the com...Read more

imagemagick - Convert PDF to image with high resolution

I'm trying to use the command line program convert to take a PDF into an image (JPEG or PNG). Here is one of the PDFs that I'm trying to convert. I want the program to trim off the excess white-space and return a high enough quality image that the superscripts can be read with ease. This is my current best attempt. As you can see, the trimming works fine, I just need to sharpen up the resolution quite a bit. This is the command I'm using: convert -trim 24.pdf -resize 500% -quality 100 -sharpen 0x1.0 24-11.jpgI've tried to make the following cons...Read more

Streaming large PDFs from SharePoint

I have a client that wants to store large PDFs (>700MB) on SharePoint 2013. The problem is that viewing the PDF is currently requiring the entire PDF to be download before displaying the first page. I need the browser to display each page of the PDF as it downloads, a feature I believe Adobe calls "Fast Web View" or "Byte Streaming". Here is what I know:"Fast Web View" is enabled on the PDF document in the Document Properties window.I can verify that the PDF is "Linearized" by reading the ASCII content.I have checked the PDF reading options ...Read more

pdf - Digital signatures in a smart card: Why have two certificates, one for authentication and the other for non-repudiation (signing)?

Update: reading itext whitepaper on using smart cards to sign and have the following question:Digital signatures in a smart card: Why have two certificates, one for authentication and the other for non-repudiation? Why can't one certificate be used for both since both authentication and non-repudiation certificates uses private keys to encrypt and public key to decrypt. Is it because the "authentication certificate" contains sensitive info? It's said that the authentication signatures allows the card to prove his identity and also the certifi...Read more

Simple Electronic Signature: "Signing" PDF Without Certificate for Post-Signature Tamper-Protection

First of all, a bit of background - the actual questions are at the bottom.I'm currently working on a web-based app (sort of SaaS) which allows users to send forms to their own customers. These forms are simple, small contracts for small jobs where their customers say "Yeah sure, I'll do this and here's my confirmation".The sort of thing that is being "signed" does not require a fully qualified digital signature and an electronic signature will suffice. While, in this case, a simple checkbox saying "Yeah, I'll do this" would legally be sufficient...Read more

pdf - Verify Electronic Signatures with PDFBox

My company has requested a Java web service implementation of extracting data from PDF forms to initiate straight through processing capabilities for client operations using Apache PDFBox. Easy enough. The tough part is that forms are being submitted from clients of my firm on behalf of end customers, but the end customer signature has to be validated. The business case for signing these forms is through informal electronic signature (digital representation of a wet signature) processes like the signature "stamp" in Adobe Reader with an image of...Read more
