Do COM or CORBA bring forward compatibility of compiler or of standard library?

This question follows the previous one below:Easy way to guarantee binary compatibility for C++ library, C linkage?I wondered if making interface functions of C++ DLL or shared library with C linkage brings forward compatibility of Compiler and of standard library. extern "C" someAPI();The most voted answer was saying that I am wrong. The answer recommended making it open-source. And never mentioned about COM or CORBA. Making it open-source is not always possible. But recently I am reading books about Windows COM. And I think COM maybe brings t...Read more

Create C++ ATL COM nested namespaces like System namespace in .NET

I have several ATL COM services and would like each of them to have their own namespace, but be under a single base namespace, just like the System namespace in .NET.For example if a C# project were to include these COM objects, all would be under the same base namespace:using MyCompanyName.Terminator;using MyCompanyName.Superman;using MyCompanyName.Thor;... instead, what I have currently is this:using Terminator;using Superman;using Thor;... which is what I do NOT want. I want to be able have a base namespace and sub-namespaces under that base...Read more

Distributed processing of CPU intensive COMs

I have a 32 bit COM object that does CPU intensive processing (for now limited to a single CPU). In order to scale it up for very large datasets and user communities, I am thinking of employing distributed processing via MapReduce-like frameworks, like QizMt. My question is, will QizMt work with COMs? Are there any other alternatives? The logic inside the COM is rather complex, I would want to make the distributed processing as transparent to the original code as possible....Read more
